Business Analyst

Bridge the gap between business needs and technology solutions

Business Analysts are the translators of the tech world. They work with stakeholders across an organisation to understand what a business needs, then translate those needs into clear requirements that developers, engineers, and project teams can actually build — making sure technology investments deliver real value.

Hard Skills

Tech & Tools

Requirements Management
Gathering and documenting business requirements is the core of the role. BAs use structured techniques — interviews, workshops, surveys, and observation — to capture what stakeholders actually need, then translate those needs into formal specifications that development teams can act on.

Modelling & Documentation
Visual models make complex processes clear. BAs produce process flow diagrams, use case models, data flow diagrams, and wireframes using tools like Microsoft Visio, Lucidchart, and draw.io — giving every stakeholder a shared picture of the proposed solution.

Key Technologies

The modern BA’s toolkit spans both business and technical domains.

  • Jira & Confluence — agile project tracking and documentation
  • SQL & Power BI — data querying and business intelligence reporting
  • Microsoft 365 — collaboration, documentation, and presentation

Soft Skills

People & Work Style

Active Listening:
A stakeholder will rarely hand you a perfect brief. BAs ask the right questions, listen carefully for unstated assumptions, and probe beyond what people say to uncover what they actually need — often discovering that the original request and the real problem are not the same thing.

Structured Thinking:
Business problems arrive as a tangle of symptoms, opinions, and competing priorities. BAs break them apart systematically — identifying root causes, separating requirements from solutions, and producing clear, unambiguous documentation that leaves no room for misinterpretation.

Stakeholder Management:
BAs sit between executives, end-users, and developers — groups with very different languages, priorities, and expectations. Managing those relationships, resolving conflict between competing requirements, and keeping everyone aligned is as important as the technical work.
